UOG matrial arts guyUniversity of Guam Professor of Anthropology Douglas Farrer was published in the Autumn issue of the Martial Arts Studies — a publication printed by the Cardiff University Press in Wales — for his research.

Farrer’s paper, “Efficacy and Entertainment in Martial Arts Studies,” describes both the practicality and performance aspects of martial arts, such as Chin Woo of Singapore and Malaysia, the Yapese stick dance, the Seni Silat of Malaysia and even Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is widely practiced on Guam.

Farrer was also invited to be the keynote speaker for the Martial Arts Studies Conference in Cardiff in the past summer to speak about the research he conducted for his paper.
