The Marianas Visitors Authority was scheduled to hold open auditions on Jan. 7 in Saipan for a “Marianas-chan,” or Marianas child, who will help promote the Northern Mariana Islands in Japan. The contest is open to U.S. citizen children ages 4 to 6 who reside in Saipan, Tinian or Rota, and MVA will offer a $1,000 cash prize to the winner. The deadline for applications was Jan. 6. The child will be featured in various MVA marketing and promotional activities in 2017, beginning in February.
