
Local singing group Kids from Chuuk are the subjects of the same-titled documentary, directed by Sarah Filush, which received the Best of Festival award at the Guam International Film Festival in November.
Several Guam films received awards at the sixth annual Guam International Film Festival, “GIFF VIsion,” held Nov. 16 to 20. “Group,” directed by Alissa Eclavea, won the Best Made in the Marianas Award; “A Twist of Yarn,” directed by Juli Hernandez and Whisper Dela Cruz, won the Docomo Pacific Audience Choice Award; and “Kids From Chuuk,” directed by Sarah Filush, won Best of Festival. Other recognitions included the Grand Jury Awards for Best Documentary Feature, which went to “Mele Murals;” Best Documentary Short, won by “Smoke That Travels;” Best Narrative Feature, awarded to “Mahemir;” and Best Narrative Short awarded to “Syaahi.” Sue Prado, starring in “The Sister,” received the Achievement in Acting Award.
