Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands are represented at the National Christmas Tree site in Washington D.C., which was lit during a ceremony on Nov. 30. All states, five territories and the District of Columbia are represented at the National Christmas by smaller trees on the “Pathway of Peace” — a walkway that surrounds the main tree — and by a single handmade ornament from each area. For 2017, the ornament representing Guam was made by advanced art students from Simon Sanchez High School, and the ornament representing the Northern Mariana Islands was made by 10th grade arts and crafts students from Mount Carmel School Saipan.
