How often do you get an annual physical/checkup? Are most of your health care needs available on island?

“Once a year — off island at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Global City, Philippines. [Most of my health care needs are available on island] — for now, that is. For my daughter, definitely not. Guam needs to get it together. As a mother of a child with special needs that require medical attention yearly, I have spent the past 10 years establishing care elsewhere, rather than seeking it here on island, our home. It’s sad because you would think that a place such as the Philippines, where poverty seems to be greater, would lack the resources, but they don’t and we do.”

“I try to get it once a year and it gives me a reason to go off island for a mini vacation. Time is of the essence, so if my checkup is off-island and coordinated properly, it can be done in one day. I kill two birds with one stone to enjoy a few days off-island and check my health, all in one place. … I think the health care industry on Guam has improved and is continuing to improve. I do not specifically look to go off-island for health care services. In the event of a major health issue, I would look to where I feel I can obtain the best treatment with the most efficient use of my time.”

“I get a physical annually with my doctor here in Guam and think that with the new brood of doctors at GRMC most of my health care needs are now available here. The island lifestyle and diet eventually take their toll, so I have to do all I can to stay healthy. If I did go off-island for anything, it’d be an executive checkup in the Philippines.”

“I get my annual checkup once a year, diligently. For a certain concern, I go in every six months — all on island — and yes, most of my health care needs are available on island.”

“Once a year I schedule myself to have an executive checkup off-island. After six months I’ll meet with my primary physician on-island for a regular checkup, e.g. monitor cholesterol and sugar levels, blood pressure, etc. Yes, my health care needs are available on island. Fortunately, I don’t have any health issues at this point in time.”
