UOG calendar highlights fishing and gardening

The University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant along with the Guam Green Growth initiative released two calendars for 2024, which are designed to assist the community in keeping track of important dates and providing valuable information related to fishing and gardening in Guam.

The calendars will be available for free while supplies last. The 2024 Guam Tide Chart Calendar: Family Fishing Edition highlights members of the island’s fishing community with their families. The 2024 Guam Grower’s Calendar: Fanha’aniyan Manåmon Guahån features a different local fruit or vegetable each month, listing both the English and Chamorro names, characteristics of each crop, and gardening tips for optimal growth.

Guam bank gets community banking award

Bank of Guam was recognized with the Institute’s Money Smarts Banky Award for its Financial Empowerment Program. The award is given to top community banks across the country to help people find the best banks in their communities.

Famous producer visits Yap

John Duffy, a film producer, who has produced and line produced more than 30 feature films among other accomplishments, has visited Yap for a film project. The Department of Youth and Civics Affairs team and Duffy visited Yap’s Atoll Islands Ulithi and Fais to get a visual and experience of the significant landmarks, history, and aerial of the main and outer islands of the State of Yap for an upcoming production.

Historic Northern Mariana Islands icon restored

The historic Japanese cannon overlooking Sasanhaya Bay in Rota was restored and repainted by a group of high school students working with Marianas Visitors Authority under the CNMI public school System co-operative education program.

Japanese professor appointed honorary tourism ambassador

Kyoko Nakayama, a professor with the Facility of Education at Teikyo University in Japan has been named Marianas Honorary Tourism Ambassador for her long-standing enthusiasm for and promotion of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota as part of her work teaching about Japanese historical ties to The Marianas. Nakayama is also working on an exhibit “The Truth of Tropical Islands” about The Marianas and Guam at Teikyo University Museum, highlighting Japanese historical ties in The Marianas.

Hilton wins food and beverage award

For the first time in its eight-year history, the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa was invited to compete in the F&B Master’s Finals. This event offers a platform for talent showcase, skill development, and creativity in the hospitality industry.
