Saipan student reigns as spelling champion

Saipan eighth-grader, Justine Calayo from Grace Christian Academy took home the win at the 2015 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee held on March 15 at the Leo Palace Resort Guam. More than 50 students from Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and Pohnpei competed in the spelling competition. Calayo, the 2014 runner-up, beat out returning champion Ron Rocky Caloma from Santa Barbara Catholic School with the word “echidna.”
